Sure Bak, who worked as an interactive product UX designer at Porsche, currently works on designing HRI (Human-Robot Interaction) at NAVER LABS. He clearly defines the difference between a car and a robot as a car being ‘me’ and a robot being ‘you’. Traditionally, a car was seen as an extension of the human body. That is, people identified themselves with their cars. One’s personality can be expressed through one’s car. When a car speeds up, the driver feels as if they are racing. This is why car interface design includes many symbolic and emotional elements for the users On the contrary, robots are different individuals. Robots are separate individuals that think and move for themselves as an object beyond one’s boundaries. Even though robots are similar to the machines that we already know, we also seek human resemblance in robots. We can design predictable robot interfaces only after determining the scope of people’s expectations. This is not an easy job.
